WIESKIRCHE

The pilgrimage church of the Scourged Saviour on the Wies, often simply referred to as the Wieskirche, is one of the most famous rococo churches in the world. It is located in Steingaden in the Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau in Germany. The church was built in the middle of the 18th century, more precisely between 1745 and 1754, after tears were reported on an image of the scourged Christ, which attracted pilgrims. The master builder Dominikus Zimmermann designed this extraordinary church, which is considered the pinnacle of his work.
