NEUSCHWANSTEIN and HOHENSCHWANGAU CASTLE

Distance to our house approx. 10 kilometres - journey time by car approx. 15 minutes. Travelling time by bike via Pinswang - Fürstensteig directly to the castles approx. 1 hour. Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the most famous and photogenic castles in the world, located in Bavaria, Germany, near the town of Füssen and above the valley of the Pöllat Gorge. Built in the second half of the 19th century at the behest of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, it served as a personal retreat for the king and as a tribute to Richard Wagner, whose operas Ludwig adored. Neuschwanstein is a prime example of the romantic historicism of the time and combines elements of medieval castles with the neo-Romanesque style.

WIESKIRCHE

The pilgrimage church of the Scourged Saviour on the Wies, often simply referred to as the Wieskirche, is one of the most famous rococo churches in the world. It is located in Steingaden in the Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau in Germany. The church was built in the middle of the 18th century, more precisely between 1745 and 1754, after tears were reported on an image of the scourged Christ, which attracted pilgrims. The master builder Dominikus Zimmermann designed this extraordinary church, which is considered the pinnacle of his work.
